Finding your ideal job can sometimes feel like an uphill struggle. With so many different factors to take into account from working hours and pay through to location and promotion prospects, just finding the right job too apply for can seem like as much work as the application process itself!
Luckily these days the internet is at hand with a wealth of advice to make the process as straightforward and painless as possible. In fact there are so many resources available that it can feel like information overload, with all the different choices and methods to finding a job a little overwhelming. The biggest hurdle for many job seekers to overcome is: where to start?
The first thing to do is to narrow down your options. This may seem counter-intuitive if you need work, but cutting down your choices can help you focus better on finding the right jobs to apply for and will make the process much more manageable. This is easier than it sounds. We all have a dream career but be realistic: if you know a job is out of your reach due to qualifications, experience, etc, then let it go. Time spent applying for positions which are out of your reach is essentially wasted time that could have been spent on a successful job application for something attainable.
Perhaps you’re not sure what kind of work to look for, but there are a few things you probably are sure of. Make a firm decision on what kind of hours you want to work, how far you are willing to travel and, of course, an acceptable (and, again, realistic!) salary. Just using these factors to filter your job search can go a long way to help managing to task of finding a great job that suits you.
With so many job sites and recruiters on the internet, it can be tempting to to sign up at every single one to get the greatest exposure possible. This does increase your options somewhat but again a bit of focus is often better than being overwhelmed with a dearth of, often irrelevant, information. Do some research on the different services available and sign up for the couple that best suit your needs.
It has taken some time, but a lot of the larger companies are now up to speed with the online world and offer comprehensive job listings and application forms on their own sites. Some have gone even further and offer personal accounts where you can keep an up to date profile and be alerted to the latest relevant job openings. If you know which particular employment sector or employer you wish to work for then these are a great way to keep an eye out for specific jobs positions.
You can use the menu on the left to browse profiles of different employers. On these pages you will find information about some of the countries largest employers, the different job positions, career potential and pay and benefits they offer. You can also find out about the application process, including tips on the best way to apply and how to maximise your chances of successfully applying for your perfect career.
